Montreal's 2009 urban transport report card



Montreal's 2009 report card on progress in the urban transport area which includes cycling urban infrastructure is now available.

What feel-good PR! Alas, the devil is in the details of course. ex: 55 new km in the bike network. Sounds good, but alas only 9 of those km will have any protection, the rest is just more painted lines and sharrows. See:

Painted lines and sharrows give you no additional legal rights. You've still required to ride at the rightmost side of the roadway, just like you'd have to do without them. The sharrow doesn't allow you to 'take the lane'.

It's just an inexpensive way for the city to say "look at this number of km increasing year after year!"
