Montreal Fountains ride
Victoria Square's fountain
Rain isn't a popular subject for cycling! But when it's sunny out we seek out water-related destinations. So today's Montreal scenic-exploration urban ride will take us to three very special water fountain destinations.
Place Ville Marie
Place Ville Marie is our most iconic downtown skyscraper (and still the best one). It has a plaza with a fountain and a great view up McGill College street all the way to Mont Royal.

Victoria Square
Victoria Square has been completely redone recently, and has the fountains shown at the tp of the page. Victoria Square also has this Hector Guimard-designed art-nouveau style Metro entrance. This is one of the jewels of Montreal, so be sure to check it out.

Sublime secret
Our last stop is in Old Montreal near the water outside the very good Pointe-à-Callière archeology museum. The museum passes undergound beneath Place Royale. Here at ground level
is the this unusual fountain. We like this one a lot.

Montreal has lots of other fountains, and we will write about a few more in the near future.
But since you have now arrived at the biggest water feature of Montreal: the Saint Laurence River, we invite you to cross the street to the Vieux Port and take a ride beside the river.

They all look very interesting. I will surely make these a destination if I ever make it to Montreal.
Fountains are awesome! You should check out the one behind the Palais des Congres, at Place Jean-Paul Riopelle (corner Viger and de Bleury). After dark there is dry ice and flames; not all they time, they go on and off, so stick around for 15 minutes. Also the wall of Palais des Congres is lit up and constantly changes color.
Hi! I've been looking at your blog for a while, I really like it. I'm going to move to Montreal with my boyfriend in September. Right now we live in Berkeley, CA, so I'm a little concerned about the change in weather, especially because we both love road biking. How many months/year can you bike? What do you do in the other months? I was also wondering if you had any suggestions about where to get an apartment. I will be working at McGill, so the best would be somewhere that's close enough to walk/bike/metro down to McGill, but also from where it's easy to start riding, so one doesn't need to take the car or be stuck in traffic for a while before reaching some nice biking roads.
